In his younger days, Reuben Narain had been addicted to heroin and alcohol for as long as 21 years. In the last 22 years, he has remained abstinent. Today, he is a Certified Substance Abuse Counsellor (CSAC) and a Certified Gambling Addiction Counsellor (CGAC). He currently works as a Senior Assistant Counsellor at the National Addictions Management Service (NAMS) in the Institute of Mental Health. Prior to this, he was an assistant director at a halfway house.
At NAMS, Reuben is part of a multidisciplinary team that treats individuals with addiction issues in an inpatient setting. He has been working in this capacity for the past 13 years. Reuben is passionate about working with people suffering from drug and alcohol addiction. He strives to use his past experiences as an addict to help people leave their addictions behind, and find a new way to live life. He is happily married to his wife of 42 years, and is a proud grandfather of a 2-year old girl. During his free time, he enjoys playing music.
